Busia County Governor H.E Sospeter Ojaamong has called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta to consider moving the dry port promised to Uganda from Naivasha to Busia.

Governor Ojaamong spoke during the Busia County Assembly members’ consultative meeting held at the Busia Agricultural Training Center (ATC) on Monday. He said it would be great for Busia region to play host to the dry port since it is more close ad accessible from Uganda, South Sudan and Rwanda.

“We do have enough land in Busia for the construction of a dry port have the dry port. Uganda building a dry port all the way into Naivasha will only hurt the economy of Busia County. ”  said the governor.

During Uganda’s President Museveni’s visit to Kenya last week, President Kenyatta said he is offering land in Naivasha for Uganda to build a dry port. He explained that the Naivasha port will strengthen foster the Kenya-Uganda country relations.

Uganda’s President Museveni said that upon construction, the dry port in Naivasha will be the Uganda’s base for its cargo when it lands at the Port of Mombasa before being transported to Uganda.
