It has emerged that the United States Embassy in Nairobi issued warning on 9th April on possible areas of abduction. This was just three days before the two Cuban Doctors got abducted in Mandera.

The statement advised Americans in Kenya to be cautious, citing increased crime and possibility of abductions. The Embassy also noted that the Kenyan police are willing but do not have capability to respond to terrorist attacks.

The US Embassy warning discouraged Americans from travelling to areas near the Somalia-Kenya border. This are mainly Wajir, Garissa and Mandera Counties.

The two Cuban Doctors namely Dr Herera Correa and Dr. Landy Rodriguez were abducted just three days after the US Embassy security alert. It is suspected that they were kidnapped by al shabaab.During the abduction, the suspects fatally injured a police officer who was guarding the doctors on their journey to work. 

The National police Service, in its statement, confirmed that security agencies have been deployed to rescue the doctors. The service asked for calmness from the public.
