A section of Members of Parliament plotting to introduce a motion in the National Assembly to impeach Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is out of order.
Led by Belgut MP Nelson Koech, the move is intended to “stop Matiang’i from overstepping his mandate as the CS”. If you ask one Bwana Mheshimiwa Koech where Matiang’i has done the overstepping of his mandate, I am sure he will mumble something like, ‘…Ruaraka land saga and fake gold…’, without saying anything substantial about the two cases.
In the Ruaraka land case, the CS was exonerated. The fake gold scam is still a matter under investigation. How then does one stand on a podium and say they are going to impeach the CS for overstepping his mandate.
Tanga Tanga Faction
The MPs singing this song are undoubtedly from the Tanga Tanga faction of Jubilee. They are afraid that Matiang’i, the ‘Super CS’ might be the surprise candidate for President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022. They are forgetting that the force Ruto has right now is unstoppable.
Having been a Raila man in the past, right now if confronted with an option between him and Deputy President William Ruto, I would go for the latter. Again, if confronted with an option between Matiang’i and Raila, I would go for Raila.
I am not undermining the strength of the CS in matters leadership, but according to me, he has a long way to go in matters politics. As much as he can make a good manager of the country and our economy, this is not the right time for him. To Many Kenyans, Matiang’i is unripe for presidency. As such, he should not be sending jitters to the Tanga Tanga crew.
The Uhuru Factor
Just like Jesus loved John the disciple above all other disciples, so is President Uhuru Kenyatta with Matiang’i. This means one thing; impeaching the CS will not be a walk in the park. Listen to CS Matiang’i speaking. You will for a moment think that President Uhuru Kenyatta has sent him to read the latter’s speech.
This paints a picture of a loyal subject. Matiang’i cannot finish three sentences in an interview without mentioning president Uhuru. He implements what his boss wants. We all know cabinet secretaries report to the president. The first person who would have been dissatisfied by Matiang’i’s performance is the president.
Following his performance as the Education CS and the reforms he made sure happen at the Kenya National Examinations Council – including rooting out of examinations cheating – makes him the tallest of the dwarfs. A CS above all the others. His enthusiasm can only be compared to the late Michuki’s, when he served as a minister in Kibaki’s government.
However, if this goes on and is introduced I parliament then the muscles of Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke would have been placed in the first ring before the said possible referendum and 2022 general elections
