Matiangi, the Cabinet Secretary for Internal Security has been taken to court by five Nigerians residing in Kenya over his order to have them deported. The Nigerians namely Munirudeen Adedamola Safu, Aliu Adewale Safiu, Fatai Oshodi, Musa Odeyoyis, and Oluwafemi Akinmoyero have been declared illegal immigrants by the CS.
Violation of Rights
Speaking through their lawyer, the oga men argued that deportation would be violation of their rights. They claim to have fulfilled every constitutional requirement to be in Kenya. The explained that they are in Kenya legally, with possession of alien IDs and work permits from Kenya’s immigration.
Other respondents mentioned in the case alongside CS Matiangi include the Attorney General, DCI, Kasarani Police station OC and the Director of Immigration.
This comes merely a day after over 30 Nigerian nationals were arrested in Kasarani area for being in the country illegally. They were also reportedly accused of peddling drugs, according to the Kasarani police station commander, who led the operation.
The Nigerians arrested had previously claimed to be students at the United States International university (USIU).
