Two Cuban doctors have reportedly been abducted by al shabaab militia in Mandera County. The two doctors are part of the Cuban doctors that were brought to Kenya in the governmental agreement between Kenya and Cuba.
Security personnel killed
According to reliable sources, the two were abducted on their way to work Friday morning. The militants managed to hold them up after the security personnel assigned to them were killed.
Learning local Language
The two doctors namely Dr. Herera Correa and Dr. Landy Rodriguez have been in Mandera county for months an were learning Swahili and local languages to better serve the locals.
Reports indicate that local Kenyan doctors fled the region, only leaving the two Cuban doctors with one local doctor at the facility.
Dr. Rodriguez had in an earlier media interview alluded to the knowledge that Mandera County was prone to attacks. He however, expressed confidence citing that he had worked in worse conditions before.
