Busia County Launches a Youth Mentorship Program

Schools in Busia County will be receiving rare visitors in the coming months. The Youth of Busia County under the umbrella of Busia Youth Alliance (BYA) will be visiting schools in the County to mentor their young brothers and sisters in a bid to encourage better performance in the schools.

The BYA group plans to hold educative mentorship programs in primary and secondary schools in the county starting July 2016.

According to the chairperson of the BYA group, Mr Darius Makokha, the program is aimed at  developing a morally upright generation through mentoring in Busia by actively engaging them  motivational talks.

The program also aims at promoting effective learning and knowledge acquisition for school going children within Busia County.

This is expected to develop a positive attitude towards education and curb early marriage and pregnancies that have been witnessed in the County in recent times.

The program will establish long lasting mentor-mentee relationships between the school going students and the youth mentors involved.

The first batch of the BYA youth group will be visiting Musokoto B Primary School in Nambale Sub-County, Busia County on Monday 4th July 2016.

The group invites passionate volunteers from the region to take part in the mentorship program and touch more lives.

Transportation costs will be catered for depending on the location of volunteers.
