Was Malaba Juice Factory a White Elephant? – Busia County gov’t on Spot

The Busia County government led by His Excellency Sospeter Ojaamong has been active in making promises of development. The governor accompanied by investors has been seen launching industrial projects in several parts of the county.

However, a section of electorate in the county have expressed their dissatisfaction with the County Government over what they termed as white elephants in form of projects.

Among the projects being dicussed in the public corridors is the Everest Juice Factory at Ikapolok Malaba. The juice factory which was launched by the governor but has since failed to kick off.

Rumour has it that the Juice factory was relocated to Kitale in Trans-Nzoia County after a section of powerful County Government officials demanded huge kickbacks from the investor.

The investor is said to have moved to Trans-Nzoia County where he found it more conducive to establish the factory.

This is not the first project in Busia County to be stalled. Others include the Mulwanda Ginnery, the Busia Sugar and the Cassava Processing factories which only exist on paper even after being officially launched by the Government.

Busia County electorates are silently asking what went wrong with the government they trusted to bring them development.
