Following the Court order to discontinue the construction and operations of West Kenya Sugar Factory in Olepito Busia County, there have been continued push and pull between the legal system and the county residents.
A couple of days ago it is reported the Governor had given the workers a go-ahead to continue their operations at the factory. However, unconfirmed reports reaching our desk indicate the workers were barred from doing their work Friday morning by a new order.
Demonstrations have been reported at Kemodo market and along the Busia – Mumias road Friday morning following the current developments. There is heavy police deployment in the area. We are yet to get any official communication from the County government and the Factory office.
