Busia High Court has issued orders stopping the ongoing construction of West Kenya sugar factory at Olepito in Teso south.
Justice A. Kaniaru issued the orders after a Busia resident, Shaban Wandera, sought the orders claiming that the construction of the factory which was at homestretch was being done against the law.
Shaban comes from Nasewa in Matayos Sub-county where Busibwabo sugar factory was being constructed before a Namboboto resident moved to court to stop its construction.
Wandera has also claimed that some leaders from Busia county were taking sides and support West Kenya sugar factory in its efforts to frustrate Busibwabo factory.
Busibwabo sugar factory is three times bigger than West Kenya in terms of size and capacity of tonnes of sugar it is able to mill per day.
Busibwabo was to start functioning late last year before its construction was halted through numerous court orders filed by various petitioners while West Kenya (pictured) was to milking sugarcane this May.
